There are three main categories of devices which are starting to impact the market, if we consider only the CPU they use. There are also different display sizes to choose from.
Allwinner A10 CPU with Mali 400 graphics acceleration:
This is one of the newest CPUs that emerged in tablet market. It is a single core processor, which is based on Cortex A8 CPU. It is not a state of the art in terms of speed and performance, bur accompanied with Mali GPU, it can decently manage almost all standard jobs. The CPU speed is set at 1.0GHz but can be overclocked to 1.5GHz in future software versions. Mali 400 can easily decode HDTV footage which can be reproduced on a TV set with HDMI port.
Some devices that use this hardware combination are: Onda Vi40 Elite, Bmorn V99 - they are both 9,7 inch, 1024x768, capacitive multitouch devices. The most popular 7 inch representatives are Ainol Novo Elf and Ainol Novo Aurora. Aurora even features a very high quality IPS LCD screen. We have to stress that all these devices come with the latest Android 4.0 ICS installed.
There are some problems with Android Market but it can be all easily resolved using some installation scripts. Some devices have single and other even dual cameras.
Rockchip RK2918 1.2 GHz with Vivante GC800 GPU:
This is another combo which can offer a lot in terms of price - performance. CPU is a little faster, and together with the graphics unit it can be used for daily tasks, playing games or reproducing video material. The most popular device with this hardware is Cube U9GT 2. It is a solid made device, which has a metal housing that is really rare with Chinese tablets.
The only feature which it lacks is the HDMI port. This can be a problem for people who would like to use a tablet instead of network media player. There are also other devices with this CPU that also include HDMI.
Ingenic JZ4770 Xburst with GC860 GPU is the newest of the presented chipsets. It is supposed to be among the fastest options. There are some problems running applications which can't be run on MIPS CPU infrastructure, so be careful before getting one and check what you will be using it for. You can get Ainol Novo Paladin, a 7 inch device, packed with almost any feature you can imagine for a price around 100$.
It is on you to decide what you want and how much money you will spend. I would personally go for Onda Vi40 Elite Chinese Android tablet, but it is really hard to get as it is reported to be sold out on many internet stores.
